The project

The feeling of staying on the island.

For Tolani Koh Samui, VOLANTT was commissioned to build a visual world around the experience of staying on the island.

Instead of approaching the property as a conventional hotel shoot, we focused on how the resort feels across the course of a day. Morning light. Quiet interiors. Movement between the villas and the landscape. Time by the water. Dining. Small moments of escape. The changing colour of the sky. And the slower rhythm that defines island life.

The result was a complete collection of photography and film, designed to support Tolani across its website, social media and wider digital marketing.

Creative direction

Relaxed tropical luxury.

The visual direction centred on relaxed tropical luxury. Polished, but never overly staged. Cinematic, but still natural.

We wanted the content to feel warm, immersive and experiential, showing not only the physical property but the sense of freedom and escape that comes from being there.

Every part of the production was developed around that idea. From the storyboard and model direction to the timing of sunrise and sunset shots, camera movement, lighting and aerial sequences, each frame was designed to belong to the same visual language.

Storyboarding and pre-production

A story, not a list of spaces.

Before filming, we built the production around a clear storytelling structure. Scenes were planned according to nine things.

That let the finished content feel connected, not fragmented. Instead of moving randomly from room to pool to restaurant, the viewer is taken through a considered experience of the property.

The website hero film

The property, revealed through experience.

At the centre of the production was a cinematic film created for Tolani's digital presence. It was designed to communicate the property quickly and emotionally, giving potential guests an immediate understanding of the atmosphere before they explore individual rooms or amenities.

Instead of a straightforward hotel walkthrough, the film moves through moments. Landscape. Architecture. Interiors. People. Water. Food. Sunlight. Movement.

Captured in professional 4K, it was designed to work as a premium website asset while keeping enough narrative and visual depth to stand alone as a brand film.

Professional 4K video production

Cinematic, and built to be reused.

The wider film production followed a cinematic hospitality approach. Careful camera movement. Controlled compositions. Professional lighting. Detail shots. Longer atmospheric moments. Lifestyle sequences. Drone perspectives. And carefully planned transitions between spaces.

The aim was footage considered enough for a luxury brand film, yet versatile enough for shorter social edits and future campaigns.

Lifestyle and model direction

Guests who genuinely belong.

Hospitality becomes more compelling once people enter the frame. We worked with models throughout the production to give the property a sense of life, scale and emotion.

Instead of heavily posed imagery, we built scenes around natural actions and guest behaviours. Arriving. Walking through the property. Relaxing. Moving through a room. Spending time by the water. Dining. Watching the sunset. Enjoying quieter moments within the resort.

The models were directed to feel like guests genuinely experiencing the property, not performing for the camera. That created a more aspirational, but still believable, representation of a stay at Tolani.

Talent was built into the storyboard and the production schedule. We considered where models would add the most value, how their movement would interact with the spaces, and how wardrobe, lighting and time of day would affect each scene. Their role was not decorative. Human presence communicates scale, warmth, emotion and how a property is actually experienced.

Two ends of the day

Before guests wake. As the sky turns.

Sunrise

Some of the most atmospheric moments at a tropical resort happen before most guests are awake. We planned specific sunrise coverage to capture softer light, quiet spaces and the calm of the property at the start of the day.

Early-morning aerials and ground-level footage showed Tolani in a very different character from the brighter daytime imagery. These scenes became visual breathing space within the wider story.

Sunset and golden hour

Sunset formed another major chapter. Production timing was planned so key lifestyle, exterior and aerial scenes could be captured in golden hour.

As the light shifted, the resort took on a warmer, softer character. These moments gave us some of the strongest transitional footage in the campaign, moving the story from daytime activity into the slower mood of the evening.

Light

Natural first. Lit where it matters.

While natural light remained central to the visual language, professional lighting was used where necessary to keep consistency, shape interiors and keep people and spaces balanced in the frame.

Lighting decisions were made subtly. The goal was not to make scenes feel artificially lit, but to preserve the atmosphere of the property while giving the image greater depth and polish. That mattered most across interior, lifestyle and model-led sequences.

Aerial photography and film

Scale, place, and the island around it.

Drone production played an important role in establishing the location and scale of Tolani Koh Samui. Aerials connected the architecture with the wider island environment.

Instead of using drone footage only for establishing shots, we built aerial sequences into the storytelling itself. Approaching the property. Revealing the landscape. Following movement. Showing the relationship between water, resort and surrounding environment. Capturing the changing light at sunrise and sunset.

These perspectives gave the final films a greater sense of place.

Architecture and details

The spaces, and what happens between.

Architecture, interiors and spatial relationships were captured through deliberate framing and slower camera movement. We wanted viewers to understand how the spaces connect and how they might feel to move through. Wide views establish the environment. Closer compositions reveal materials and details. Lifestyle scenes then show how those spaces are actually experienced.

Some of the most useful footage came from the smallest scenes. Light moving through a room. Water catching the sun. Fabric moving in the breeze. A hand touching a surface. Footsteps. Reflections. Palm trees moving overhead. The horizon.

These details give hospitality films rhythm. They let the viewer feel the atmosphere between the larger hero moments.

Together, these layers make the resort feel more dimensional than a conventional property showcase.

Photography and social

A library built for every channel.

Alongside the film production, we created a photography library for Tolani's wider digital communications. It works as standalone campaign material and alongside the moving-image content.

The production was also planned beyond the website film. Vertical and short-form sequences were captured for social media, so Tolani can keep using the production across posts and campaigns. They focus on smaller experiences: movement through the property, water, sunlight, details, people, views, food and island atmosphere. These shorter films let individual parts of the stay become their own stories.

    A reusable B-roll archive

The B-roll library gives Tolani a flexible bank of professional 4K material across architecture, interiors, lifestyle, models, landscape, water, details, sunrise, golden hour, sunset and aerial sequences, ready to be repurposed into new edits, campaigns and social content over time.

A stay, imagined

Telling the stay, not just showing the resort.

The objective was never simply to document Tolani Koh Samui. It was to tell the story of being there. The quiet beginning of the day. The warmth of the island. The movement between indoor and outdoor spaces. The feeling of water and light. The presence of people. And the moment the sky changes at the end of the day.

By combining creative direction, professional film production, photography, models, aerial cinematography, lighting and storytelling, we created a body of work designed to make the experience tangible before a guest ever arrives.

A stay imagined before it begins.
