The project

Not a conventional resort.

Set directly on Lamai Beach in Koh Samui, Ammatara Pura Pool Villas was conceived as a deeply personal family project: a world inspired by Thai palace and temple architecture, traditional craftsmanship and the family's concept of Raja Living, living like a king.

For VOLANTT, that history became the foundation of the visual direction. Instead of treating Ammatara as a collection of villas, we set out to document the property as a complete world: its architecture, craftsmanship, private villas, gardens, rituals, people, its relationship with the sea, and the guest experiences that bring all of it together.

It became one of VOLANTT's most extensive hospitality projects, spanning photography, film, aerial production, lifestyle content and a comprehensive visual library for the resort's website, social media, marketing and PR.

Understanding Ammatara

We started with where it came from.

Before developing the creative direction, we went deeper into the property's origins. Ammatara was created as a family legacy project under the vision of Titaporn “Ying” Trangkasombut and her family. Construction took about four years before the resort opened in 2011.

Instead of following the visual language of a conventional contemporary hotel, the family built a property inspired by Thai royal residences, temples and traditional architecture. That influence appears throughout the estate.

This gave us a much richer creative starting point than documenting rooms.

The creative direction

What does it mean to live like Thai royalty today?

That question connected Ammatara's history with the experience of the modern guest. The film and photography move between heritage and hospitality. Architecture and people. Stillness and movement. Tradition and contemporary escape.

Instead of explaining every element literally, the production lets the property reveal itself through details. A carved surface. A temple-inspired roofline. A Naga. A lotus. A shrine. Morning light moving across a villa. A guest stepping into a private pool. Dinner beside the sea. The horizon beyond Lamai Beach.

Raja Living became one of the strongest narrative threads. It connected the family's original vision with contemporary hospitality.

Living like royalty at Ammatara is not shown through extravagance alone. It is expressed through privacy. Space. Craftsmanship. Personal rituals. Food. Water. Nature. Service. And the feeling of having time.

Three villa categories

Every villa, photographed properly.

We produced about 30 fully edited final photographs for each villa category, a substantial image library for the website, booking platforms, marketing campaigns and PR.

Photographed to show the relationship between the interior, the private pool and the tropical landscape. Beyond conventional room documentation, we captured different perspectives, architectural details, lifestyle moments and the move between indoor and outdoor living.

Approached with a stronger emphasis on privacy, greenery and the feeling of retreat. The surrounding landscape became part of the composition, not just a background.

Two-Bedroom Beachfront Pool Villa

The larger villa let us show another side of Ammatara: expansive spaces, multiple living areas, a private pool, beach access and the relationship with Lamai Beach. At about 160 square metres, it needed a wider architectural approach while keeping the warmth of the smaller villas.

Interior and architectural photography

Interiors as architectural stories.

Every villa needed more than a few wide-angle room photographs. We treated the interiors as architectural stories: composition, material, furniture, carved details, lighting, views, lines, depth and the relationship between the interior and the landscape outside.

The aim was imagery accurate enough for a booking decision, yet elevated enough to work as brand photography. Clean architectural hero images were balanced with quieter editorial frames showing craftsmanship, materials and atmosphere.

Property-wide photography

Every space, in a few strong frames.

Beyond the villas, we built an extensive visual record of the wider property. For most communal areas, the aim was a concise set of three to four carefully retouched hero photographs per space, instead of overwhelming the resort with near-duplicates.

Day and night architecture

The same place, twice.

Certain parts of Ammatara change completely once the sun goes down, so we deliberately photographed several areas twice. Capturing both conditions made the visual library more complete, and showed that the property has an atmosphere beyond daytime resort imagery.

By day

In daylight, the architecture is defined by natural light, texture, greenery and the colour of its materials.

By night

At night, the same structures become dramatically different. The bridge. The pagoda. The gardens. The illuminated architecture.

The brand film

A world, revealed gradually.

At the centre of the video production is Ammatara's main promotional film. Instead of a straightforward resort walkthrough, the story is built around the property's identity. The film moves from origin and architecture into the modern guest experience.

Thai craftsmanship. Symbols. Water. Gardens. Private villas. The sea. Food. Wellness. People. The camera moves between these elements to gradually reveal what Ammatara represents.

The result acts not simply as a property showcase, but as a cinematic introduction to the world of Ammatara.

Three villa films

A room tour, without the real-estate feel.

Alongside the main brand film, we made dedicated video coverage for each principal villa category. The three room films let potential guests understand each villa individually while keeping the wider Ammatara visual language.

They reveal the spaces progressively, instead of panning from one corner to another. The aim was the clarity of a room tour without the feel of a real-estate walkthrough.

Thai Dress Experience

Traditional Thai clothing connected the contemporary guest directly with the cultural world that inspired the architecture. Instead of treating the clothing as a costume, the scenes were built around the resort itself, letting guest, architecture and heritage share one frame.

Beach Massage

A chance to communicate wellness through place. Sea. Sound. Movement. Hands. Natural materials. And the immediate presence of Lamai Beach. The imagery focuses as much on atmosphere as on the treatment itself.

Floating Breakfast

Captured as a lifestyle experience, not food placed in a swimming pool. Private villa. Morning. Water. Breakfast. Sunlight. Human presence. Together they say more about the privacy and indulgence of the stay than a conventional product photograph.

Romantic Dinner

Approached as an evening story. Lighting. Table setting. Food. The beachfront atmosphere. Two people sharing the experience. And the move from daylight into night. It added a layer of content distinct from the daytime imagery.

Food, dining and lifestyle

Food and people, inside the place.

Food was photographed within the wider resort experience. Instead of separating cuisine into isolated studio-style images, we built it into guest moments: breakfast, dining, the romantic dinner, table details, preparation and the restaurant environment. The goal was to show that food is part of the rhythm of staying at Ammatara, not an unrelated amenity.

Human presence played an important role across the project. Lifestyle scenes showed how the spaces are actually inhabited: walking through the gardens, moving through a villa, using the pool, dining, wellness, the beach, traditional dress, morning rituals and evening rituals.

Instead of exaggerated or overly commercial poses, the visual language stayed quiet and cinematic. The talent exists within the environment. The resort remains the central character.

Aerial photography and cinematography

How unusual it is, seen from above.

Drone photography showed something impossible from the ground: how unusual the property is spatially. The rooflines. The gardens. The pools. The villas. Lamai Beach. The coastline. And the relationship between the resort and the sea. These images became valuable both as establishing photography and as practical marketing assets showing location and scale.

Drone footage also became part of the storytelling. Flights were planned around the narrative, not added because they look impressive. Approaches. Reveals. Coastline. Architecture. Movement across the property. Transitions from land toward sea. These sequences placed Ammatara within Koh Samui and gave the hero film greater scale.

Production

Run like a hospitality campaign.

The scale of the project needed careful coordination across several disciplines. Photography and video were planned together. Villa availability had to be considered. Public spaces needed timing around resort operations. Lifestyle scenes needed talent. Food needed preparation. Drone coverage depended on conditions. Day and night scenes needed different production windows. And some moments could only be captured in a narrow period of natural light.

The production operated more like a hospitality campaign than a conventional hotel photoshoot. We also made social media films: three dedicated short-form pieces, built around shorter narratives and moments that stand on their own, so the shoot became an ongoing social resource instead of a single launch.

Light and storyboarding

Lit to feel invisible.

Natural light was central to the visual identity. Rooms were scheduled around favourable light wherever possible. Exterior spaces were planned around changing sun conditions. Lifestyle scenes were timed to keep softness instead of harsh midday contrast. Evening architecture was captured once the balance between ambient and architectural lighting was right. Professional lighting was then used selectively to shape interiors, food and lifestyle scenes without destroying the natural atmosphere.

The video production was storyboarded before filming. Instead of capturing disconnected beautiful shots, scenes were designed around how they would connect. Architecture into detail. Detail into human action. Human action into experience. Experience back into place. That let footage captured across several days and locations feel like one continuous world.

What we delivered

A complete hospitality asset library.

From one cohesive creative direction, built for use across the resort website, booking channels, social media, advertising, PR and wider marketing.

The B-roll library covers architecture, interiors, beach, gardens, water, pools, food, lifestyle, spa and wellness, traditional details, craftsmanship, human movement, aerial footage, and daytime and evening atmosphere. It lets Ammatara keep supporting new campaigns, social edits, website updates and marketing without filming everything from scratch.

More than a resort shoot

Photographing a hotel, and understanding one.

Ammatara shows the difference between photographing a hotel and understanding one. The architecture has a reason. The motifs have meaning. The villas carry a family history. The location shapes the experience. And the guest enters a world that was conceived long before the first camera arrived.

Our role was to understand that world first, then translate it into image and film. From family legacy to modern hospitality. From Thai craftsmanship to island life. From the smallest carved detail to the coastline of Koh Samui.

Ammatara Pura, seen as one complete story.
